Vietnam, Japan deepen strategic partnership
Vietnam and Japan have determined to further deepen the strategic partnership that the two countries have developed over the past five years. According to a joint communiqué issued at the end of President Truong Tan Sang’s visit to Japan last week, Japan will continue to help Vietnam implement the action plan for six sectors to realize the industrialization strategy to 2020. The six sectors are agriculture-aquaculture processing electronics, auto and auto components, agricultural machinery, industrial environment and energy saving, and shipbuilding. Japan will also assist Vietnam in developing two industrial parks in Haiphong City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province by sharing management expertise and helping attract Japanese investments. The country will enhance cooperation with Vietnam in infrastructure development like railway, road, seaport, airport, water supply and drainage. It will provide loans worth 120 billion yen (nearly US$1.2 billion) for the construction of the North-South Expressway, the Lach Huyen International Port and Thai Binh Thermal Power Plant. Both sides will boost public-private partnership (PPP) to meet the huge infrastructure development demand in Vietnam. The two countries have agreed on effectively implementing phase five of the Vietnam-Japan Joint Initiative on improving the investment environment in Vietnam.
