Ba Ria Vung Tau is the gateway to the East sea of the country’s southeast region with the coastal line of 305.4 km. It has great potential to develop sea-related industries such as sea port construction, shipping, logistics, fishing, sea product processing and tourism. With the convenient location in the national sea port cluster No.5, the port system of Ba Ria Vung Tau province stretches over 20km. Sao Mai Ben Dinh port and Cai Mep Thi Vai port are supposed to serve as Vietnamese gateway for international trade. As planned, the port cluster will have 52 terminals. At present, 21 terminals are in operation with the capacity of 45 million tons/year, mainly in the Thi Vai-Cai Mep zone. At present, the Cai Mep Thi Vai port cluster can accommodate vessels up to 130,000 DWT. The direct shipping route from Vietnam to Europe and North America, departing from Ba Ria- Vung Tau, has reduced the shipping time to 3-4 days/vessel. Furthermore, the port system locates adjacently to industrial zones and national highways, which is very convenient for companies in the area.
