The Management of Logistic Development Project recently held a meeting to report the implementation of Ba Ria - Vung Tau’s logistic development project in the 2011-2020 period, and received many useful comments.

At the meeting, representatives of the consultants for the project " Development of Cai Mep - Thi Vai international transshipment port complex in the 2013-2020 period”, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Portcoast Consultant Corporation (Portcoast) said that on 22-10, the Ministry of Transport approved the project to improve operation and exploitation efficiency of the seaport group 5 and the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port system. One of the goals of the project is to adjust and balance between supply and demand of goods and ports in order to enhance the efficiency of operation of harbors which have been invested. Implement measures to attract cargo transshipment to the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port system so as to take advantage of the ability of receiving large vessels (up to 80DWT) for transshipment services.
Thenceforth, it can be asserted that Cai Mep - Thi Vai wharves have been recognized the Ministry of Transport as an entrepot port. Currently, the adjustment of overall development planning of Vietnam's seaport system is done by Portcoast, and being submitted to the Prime Minister for approval. In the planning of adjustments, it proposed to transfer the Van Phong port’s function (Khanh Hoa province) into multi-port, and proposed to add the functions of an international transshipment port for Ba Ria - Vung Tau seaport. "Cai Mep - Thi Vai will definitely be identified as an international transshipment port", said Mr. Pham Anh Tuan.
An international solution
Mr. Nguyen Huu Loi, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources – Environment, said that it must compare prices and services of the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port complex with international transshipment ports such as Singapore, Hong Kong ...; thereby, it can see the strengths and weaknesses of the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port system, and adjust to enhance value for the ports.
Attended the meeting, Mr. Ho Van Nien, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee requested the consultant Portcoast to offer specific solutions , have multidimensional assessment in comparison with international ports in order to attract investment, improve infrastructure and services so as to increase competitiveness.
