Ba Ria – Vung Tau: CPI in the first month of 2015 down

According to figures from the BRVT Statistics Office, the consumer price index in January 2015 keeps going down by 0.28% compared to December 2014, slightly up 0.47% year on year.

This month, four baskets of items have decreased, while 4 other baskets have been slightly up and 3 others remain unchanged.

In terms of the baskets with lower price, transportation has seen the strongest drop with 4.45% due to the continuously falling fuel price. The fuel price has fallen on two occasions with the total decline price for gasoline A92, Diesel, and kerosene respectively 2,360VND/liter, VND 1,780/liter and VND 1,860/liter.

Housing, electricity, water, and construction materials prices declined by 1.04 per cent. From January 01, the retail price of gas has declined by VND 2,750/kg, equivalent to VND 33,000/box 12kg. Construction materials have seen a drop in price due to slump in sale and high inventory.

 Garments, footwear and hats and household utensils saw a minor decline by 0.05% and 0.02%, respectively.

The price of goods and other services went up by 0.61%; catering services by 0.41% (food by 0.23%, foodstuff 0.57% while dining-out services remained unchanged); cultural, entertainment and tourism services by 0.13%; beverage and tobacco by 0.01%. It is the coming Tet holiday event that causes the slightly increasing prices in those baskets in comparison with the previous month.

Prices of drugs, education, post and telecom services and health services remained unchanged.

The gold price index was up by 0.06 per cent while US dollar gained 0.02 per cent.
