The price consumer index (CPI) in Ba Ria – Vung Tau has inched up a slight 0.12%.
According to figures of the BRVT Statistics Office released on April 17, four of 11 groups of items have increased slightly in prices while prices of three groups of items have declined. Prices of the remaining groups have remained unchanged.
The group of catering services, the most weighted in the basket used to calculate the CPI, jumped 0.38% as affected by a 0.24% pickup of foods and a 0.64% rise of foodstuffs while dining-out services remained unchanged.
Other groups with higher prices this month are beverages-tobacco with 0.31%, transport 0.33%, other goods and services 0.12%.
household appliances 0.25% and transport and postal services 0.29%.
The higher prices of beverages-tobacco is attributable to hot weather, which has pushed up the demand for drinks. Besides, prices of transport is up due to increased sea freight charges.
Meanwhile, the housing-electricity-water-gas group has seen the strongest drop of 0.49% this month. The respective falls of household appliances and culture-entertainment are 0.19% and 0.06%.
Apparel-hat-footwear, pharmaceuticals/medical services, postal services and education are the four groups whose prices have remained unchanged this month.
Overall, BRVT’s CPI has gone up by 0.78% in the year to date and 4.74% compared to the year-ago period.
